"Probably a 2-1 win for..."- Mahela Jayawardene's bold win predictions for Border-Gavaskar Trophy

The biggest test series among the top two ranked test teams will face off against each other in the four-match series. India will lock horns with Australia in the first match on Thursday at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Nagpur.

This series will be a blockbuster, and the eyes of the whole cricketing world are on this series. Many former cricketers, not just from India and Australia but from other nations as well, are taking an interest in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Former Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene is one of them.

Both teams will give their all to win the upcoming series, India doesn't have any other option as they have the last chance to secure a place in the final of the World Test Championship, so they need to win the series. On the other hand, Australia, which has suffered defeats in the last two BGT series, will want to avoid a hat-trick of India's wins.

Meanwhile, Australia hasn't won a test series in India since 2015, while India beat them in Australia on both occasions. Australia has only won two test series in India, in 1969 and 2004. Thus, they have yet to show their dominance in India.

In the latest episode of The ICC Review, Jayawardene said that he is hoping that Australia would come out victorious by a margin of 2-1 in the end. He said that it is all about how the Australian batters play in Indian conditions, but it will be a mouth-watering contest between the two best sides.

Jayawardene said, "It's difficult to predict, but being a Sri Lankan, I'm hoping that Australia can go all the way. Probably a 2-1 win for Australia, but it's going to be a tough one."

Furthermore, he also pointed out that Shubman Gill, who is in the form of his life, will have a big impact on the upcoming series. The former Sri Lankan captain also stated that if Gill can maintain his form in red-ball cricket, he will be an important player for India at the top of the order.
