In a shocking development ahead of the 2nd match of the ICC World Test Championship series between the Indian cricket team and the South African cricket team, the members of the cricket universe have learned that wicket-keeper batter KL Rahul will lead the visiting team instead of regular captain Virat Kohli.

This development has raised many eyebrows because Virat Kohli was working hard in the practice sessions yesterday. He posted a carousel of photos from his net sessions in Johannesburg, and it seemed like the Delhi-based player would lead the country to a historic ICC World Test Championship series win in South Africa soon.

Head coach Rahul Dravid spoke to the media yesterday. During the full interaction, there was not a single update on KL Rahul leading the squad for the Test match at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.

At the toss, KL Rahul was asked the reason behind Virat Kohli’s absence in the Test match scheduled to take place against the South African cricket team at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.

Here’s what KL Rahul was quoted as saying by Sportskeeda:

“Unfortunately, Virat has had an upper back spasm and physios are on him, hopefully he recovers by the next Test.”

KL Rahul says it is a dream for any cricketer to lead his country in international cricket

KL Rahul won the toss and elected to bat first in the second match of the ICC World Test Championship series against the South African cricket team at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. Speaking about his unexpected debut as India’s Test captain, Rahul added:

“It's a great opportunity for me and it's always a dream for every Indian player to captain the country, really looking forward to the challenge. We've had a few good wins here, we want to continue to do that, go out there today, put runs on the board and put pressure on the South Africans.”
