Here's why the clash between MI vs RR is the 1000th IPL game instead of CSK vs MI on May 6
Notably, the evening game will be the 1000th game in the history of the Indian Premier League. Earlier, some reports claimed that the game between CSK and MI, which will take place on May 6, would be the 1000th IPL game.
But after updated research, it was confirmed that the clash between MI and RR on Sunday is the 1000th IPL match in history. Since the inception of the league in 2008, the IPL has taken the cricket world by storm and has become the biggest cricket tournament in the world.
Adding to that, the IPL is now among the biggest sports tournaments overall across the globe. However, the BCCI decided to schedule the 1000th IPL game between the two most successful teams, MI and CSK, but it had to change, and why? Let's take a look.
The report claiming that MI vs CSK clash on May 6 was wrong. Ahead of the start of the 16th edition, a total of 951 games were played in the tournament, which means the 49th game of the IPL 2023 was supposed to be the 1000th IPL game, which was MI vs CSK on May 6 at MA Chidambaram Stadium.
But there have been seven games in the IPL that ended without any result, and those games were abandoned without a ball being bowled. Though those games ended without any result, they were still official games, which led to the aforementioned fact, and that misinformation began from such a miscalculation.
Those seven games that ended without a result mean that before the start of the IPL 2023, there were 958 games. It means the 42nd game of the ongoing tournament will be the 1000th IPL game. Thus, the evening game between RR and MI is the 1000th IPL game.
