"Not focusing on Fastest ball, wants to win matches for country"- Umran Malik on his debut series against South Africa

The TATA IPL 2022 has given the Indian cricket team some of the emerging talents that can possibly become the future stars for the Indian cricket team. Some young uncapped batsmen and bowlers have emerged onto the grand stage and performed brilliantly.

One such name is the Kashmir-born fast bowling sensation Umran Malik. The 22-year-old has caught the eyes of the world with his sheer pace. That is the reason that the young pacer has also got his maiden call for the Men in Blue.

Umran is part of the squad against South Africa for a five-match T20I series and, as per his performance in the IPL, it is expected that he will get the game in the very first match. The Kashmir-born shocked everyone when he bowled the second fastest ball in the IPL at a speed of 157 km/h.

Notably, he can bowl at 150 km/h or above on a regular basis. Everyone also believes that he can break the record set by Pakistani pacer Shoaib Akhtar, who bowled the fastest ball in the history of the game at a speed of 100 miles per hour. However, Umran also loves bowling fast but wants to win matches for the country.

The 22-year-old took 22 wickets in 14 games in the 15th edition of the IPL. In a media interaction with India Today, he said that he is not focusing on breaking the record at the moment and that his first priority is to bowl well and win matches for the country.

He also said that he also wants to bowl at 150 or above to maintain fitness and strength. The pacer also stated that he wants to help whitewash South Africa in the series. On the other hand, he also said that his SRH teammate Abdul Samad has always helped and motivated him to do good.

Umran shared an interesting story. When he bowls to Samad, the batter also encourages him to bowl first by saying, "You are bowling slow," which motivates him to bowl at more speed.
