"Whenever we need them to score, they all get out"- Former Indian skipper slams Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul

India is definitely among the top teams when it comes to the game of cricket. The Men in Blue have had some unbeatable records in the history of the game, but the last time India was able to do so was in 2013, when MS Dhoni led the team to glory in the Champions Trophy.

But since then, there has been a total trophy drought for the Indian team. One of the main reasons behind this is the inconsistency of the team in the big games. In particular, there are a few instances when the top-order of an Indian team failed miserably, and that has hurt the team in big matches.

Former Indian and World Cup winning skipper, Kapil Dev, also believes that the trio of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul have failed to deliver in crunch matches and have got out in crucial situations.

In an interview on the YouTube channel of Uncut, Kapil Dev was asked about the recent performance of India's top three. He said that despite having a big reputation, these players are not performing as per expectations. He also suggested they play fearless cricket on the field.

The former Indian skipper added, "Whenever we need them to score runs, they all get out. When it is time to take off (in the innings), they are out. And that adds to pressure."

Kapil further talked about KL Rahul and slammed him for his defensive approach. Notably, KL Rahul ended the season as the second highest run-scorer, but his slow innings in the Qualifier 1 against RCN cost LSG the match. He scored 79 off 58 balls in the chase of 208 runs.

The former skipper said that if you are playing 20 overs, you can't return after making 60-70 runs. He highlights that the approach needs to change and if that is not possible, the team can change the play, because a big player is always expected to deliver, so just having a big reputation is not enough.

Notably, both Virat and Rohit also didn't have great numbers in the IPL 2022. Kohli scored 341 runs at an average of 22.73. The MI skipper had more poor numbers. Rohit scored only 223 runs at a low average of 19.14 and was not able to score a single fifty in the entire season.
