Former Pakistan captain criticises Pakistan Cricket Board for preparing a non-results-oriented pitch for home Tests

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has introduced the World Test Championship to keep the interest of playing nations and fans. And that has actually worked to some extent. Teams are preferring to play more red-ball games and are working harder to get a result in the match.

However, the Test series between Pakistan and Australia that took place a few months back was criticised for the defensive approach of the home cricket board in denying the outcome in favour of the visiting team. Although it didn't work and after two draws, Pakistan lost the third match and also lost the series 1-0.

Notably, the PCB chairman, Ramiz Raza, also addressed the media after the first two matches and said that they couldn't make a bouncy and fast pitch to let the Aussie pacers use the conditions against the home team. Former Pakistani skipper Salman Butt, who is known for bold statements, have slammed PCB for such mindset.

Butt said that the way the pitch played in the Test series between Australia and Pakistan was totally unacceptable. It looked as if the spinners might get some assistance, but even after five days of Test cricket, nothing happened on the pitch. He added that if you want to challenge the captaincy, it will not help.

Butt added that if you want to win overseas or give a strong team a challenge, then you need to change your mindset. The former skipper believes that Babar Azam still has a long way to go in terms of the captaincy. He said that Babar has been leading the team for a while now and has done well recently.

However, he also said, "A captain's skills and tactical ability are visible more in Test cricket and ODIs, which we play very less.Test cricket gives the best chance to see a captain's ability but the kind of pitches we make at home, it takes everything away from a captain in terms of strategy."

Pakistan will play an ODI series against the West Indies at home starting on June 8.
