"Waiting to unleash him at right time"- Ex-Indian skipper claims on Umran Malik's debut in T20I XI

After a competitive series at home against South Africa, the Indian white-ball side will play two T20Is against Ireland on June 26 and June 28. However, apart from a few changes, the selection committee has selected the same team for Ireland. Sanju Samson and Rahul Tripathi have replaced Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer in the side.

Hardik Pandya will lead the side, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar will be the vice-captain for the series. However, a few players who didn't get the game in the series will hope to play against Ireland. Umran Malik, who made it to the Indian team after an incredible IPL season, didn't get the chance.

But he will be hopeful of getting a game or two in the upcoming matches. The Kashmir-born pacer picked up 22 wickets in 14 IPL games and was the highest wicket-taker of any Indian pacer. Already, a few former cricketers like Sunil Gavaskar and Irfan Pathan have termed the 22-year-old as an exciting prospect.

However, he has yet to appear in an Indian outfit. Former cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar has shared his view on Umran Malik. In an interview with Khaleej Times, he said that because he is not part of the team management, he can't tell the internal plan, but they might be waiting for the right time to unleash the pacer.

However, he also added that the 22-year-old deserves to play, particularly when the team is playing at home. He also said that Umran is a very exciting young fast bowler and looks very fit, and he is the one for the future who can represent the country for a long time.

Further, Vengsarkar concluded, "When you are playing (international cricket) at home, that's the right time to test somebody like him. he has that aggression of fast bowler. He has got pace and accuracy."

Earlier, legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar also heaped praise on the pacer. During the India and South Africa T20I series, he said that the last time he got excited about seeing any Indian talent was Sachin Tendulkar, and after a long time, he is excited to see Umran Malik.
