Australia is on a multi-format tour of Sri Lanka. The five-match ODI series and three-match T20I series have been concluded successfully with both teams winning one series each. The T20I series was won by the visitors by a margin of 2-1, while Sri Lanka created history by winning the ODI series 3-2 after 30 years.

However, the first match of the two-match Test series is underway. Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first. But it didn't turn out to be the right one. After a decent opening stand of 38 runs for the first wicket, the home team totally lost the plot.

Thus, they lost the moment and got all out. The home team was dismissed for 212 in 59 overs in the final session of Day 1. The Australian spin duo of Nathan Lyon and Mitchell Swepson totally ran through the Sri Lankan batting line-up.

Lyon has picked up five wickets, while Swepson has taken three. However, the most crucial wicket of the Sri Lankan skipper, Dimuth Karunaratne, who was looking solid, was removed with a brilliant catch from David Warner. The southpaw was playing 28 runs off 84 balls at that moment.

On the second ball of the 30th over, Lyon bowled an arm ball to Karunaratne, who tried to defend it with a straight bat and missed it completely. The ball took the inside edge of the bat and hit the pad, flying away! All the fielders appealed for the LBW, including the bowler.

But Warner, who was fielding at the first slip, dived forward and took the catch just inches above the ground. Warner took a one-handed stunner and dismissed the skipper of the home team.

Earlier in the first innings, at one point the home team was struggling at 139/6, but then a 44-run partnership between Niroshan Dickwella and Ramesh Mendis helped Sri Lanka go past the 200-run mark. Dickwella scored 58 off 59 balls.

However, the home team lost their last four wickets for just 19 runs. From 193/6, they were bowled out for 212 runs. Both Lyon and Swepson bowled down the tight line and used the conditions really well. The veteran off-spin picked up his 20th five-wicket haul.
