"Not much difference between the two"- England all-rounder draws similarities between Eoin Morgan and MS Dhoni

On Tuesday, the 2019 World Cup-winning English captain, Eoin Morgan, officially announced his retirement from international cricket. Many former and present cricketers shared their emotions upon his retirement. The veteran English all-rounder Moeen Ali also wished the southpaw for his incredible career and wished him for his second innings.

However, he also said that Morgan also brings the same leadership qualities as the former Indian skipper MS Dhoni. The all-rounder has played under both the captains. He played under Morgan for England at international level, while he is part of the Chennai Super Kings and Dhoni is his skipper.

The all-rounder also lauded Morgan for his contributions to English cricket and called him the "greatest white-ball captain ever". However, despite going through a lean patch in the last few months, Morgan's batting numbers are far better than any other English skipper in the history of the game.

In an interaction with Sports Tak, Moeen said that he has played under both Morgan and Dhoni and he found nothing different between the captaincy of the two legends. He added that both are very calm about their roles and are loyal to their players. The all-rounder also said that both of them are brilliant captains and brilliant players as well.

Notably, Morgan took the charge after the dismal performance of the English team in the 2015 World Cup. But since then, there has been no stopping for England in the white-ball format. He has led the team to new heights and won their first ever ODI world title.

Apart from winning the ODI World Cup, England also ended in the top four in the 2016 and 2021 T20I World Cups as well. Speaking further, the all-rounder said that the World Cup-winning captain took England to another level and was one of the reasons for the change in the mindset of the players.

Moeen concluded, "The way England is playing in Test cricket is because of him. He showed that if you have the mindset, you can play fearless cricket, which we are playing now. He is the greatest white-ball captain we’ve ever had."
