"Asia Cup will be last chance for him to prolong his career"- Ex-Pakistan spinner makes a big claim on struggling Virat Kohli

On Monday, the Indian board named the 15-member team for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022. All the seniors are back in the team, and Rohit Sharma will lead the side in this multi-national tournament. KL Rahul is also back after an injury and will be India's vice-captain.

The former Indian skipper, Virat Kohli, has also got his opportunity after an extended break and will feature in the team. But the big question will be his form. Virat has been struggling for quite a while now. He hasn't played any significant innings or contributed much in any big wins for the team.

And this year, he is also taking consistent breaks from different series. But as this Asia Cup will be ideal for preparation for the upcoming World Cup, his form will be a big concern for the Indian management. Everyone wants him to score runs and regain his form because he brings confidence to the team.

Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria reckons that the Asia Cup will be very important for the former Indian skipper to prove his mark for the T20 World Cup. Virat has faced a lot of criticism in recent times because of his lean patch and his consistent breaks from the series, which has also raised many eyebrows.

Kaneria stated on his YouTube channel that this Asian tournament will be critical for Virat. He also highlighted that many former cricketers have opined that the 33-year-old should be dropped from the team because there are other youngsters who are waiting for their place.

Kaneria said, "The Asia Cup will change Virat Kohli’s career. The tournament is crucial for him to prolong his career. So he needs to think carefully about how he can make a comeback. This is because there are other dynamic batters like Iyer, Samson and Gill waiting in the wings."

Furthermore, he also spoke about the batting position of the former Indian skipper in the team. He said that Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul will open the innings for India in the tournament, and then India should use the in-form batter Suryakumar Yadav at No. 3.

Kaneria said that Virat should bat at No. 4 so that he can take his time and settle in for a big score. On August 28, Sunday, the Men in Blue will kick off their Asia Cup campaign against archrivals Pakistan. A total of six teams will take part in the tournament, and the final will be played on September 11.
