Women's IPL is likely to begin in March 2023: Reports

There is no doubt that the Indian Premier League has done a remarkable job of giving many superstars to India and world cricket. And now the women's IPL is about to start. As per some media reports, it is learnt that the Women's Indian Premier League will kick off in the next year.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has begun their arrangements for the inaugural season of the WIPL in March, 2023. The Indian board has already made some changes to the domestic schedule for women's cricket to make room for the women's IPL.

The BCCI is thinking of arranging the start of the 2022-23 women's domestic season from October 11 with the T20 tournament, which will run till February 2023 with the inter-zonal one-day tournament. Usually, the women's domestic season is played from November to April.

As per the reports by ESPNCricinfo, the BCCI is making a separate window for the women's IPL. The report quoted, "The BCCI has earmarked a window in March 2023 for the inaugural women’s IPL, and the process to get the show on the road is underway."

The BCCI officials have consistently pitched for the first women's IPL season. The president, Sourav Ganguly, had already said earlier that they would certainly organise the women's IPL next year. He also said that 2023 would be an ideal year to start the WIPL and that it would be as big as the men's IPL.

The secreatry, Jay Shah, has also confirmed that a few existing franchises have shown their interest in the women's IPL. The owners of Rajasthan Royals and Barbados Royals have already shown their interest in WIPL.

On the other hand, the Kolkata Knight Riders group, who bought a team in the new UAE T20 league, are also among the franchises who are willing to invest in the WIPL. Some reports also suggest that existing IPL team owners will get the first chance to bid for a team in the WIPL.
