Shubman Gill broke a massive 24-year-old record of Sachin Tendulkar

The third and final ODI match between India and Zimbabwe ended with a nail-biting finish. In the end, it was the Men in Blue that held their nerve to clinch a 13-run victory that came in the very last over of the match. But it was a really good effort from the hosts, and they definitely gave India a run for their money.

It was Sikander Raza, who almost pulled off yet another chase for Zimbabwe with a brilliant century, but he got out to an excellent catch by Shubman Gill at long on, which ended all hopes for the hosts. However, it was one man from India that became the difference between winning and losing.

And it was the 22-year-old, Shubhman Gill, who notched up his maiden international century and helped India to reach a competitive total of 289/8 in their first innings. Gill made 130 runs off 97 balls, with 15 fours and one six, and deservily won both the "Man of the Match" and "Man of the Series" awards.

And with his maiden century, the 22-year-old broke the 24-year-old record of Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar. He registered the highest individual score by an Indian against Zimbabwe, which was previously held by Sachin.

He made an unbeaten 127* runs against the African nation in 1988 in Bulawayo, even before Gill was born. Notably, Gill also became the second youngest Indian to register a century against Zimbabwe at the age of 22y 348 days, while Mohammed Kaif (21y 287d) was the first one.

The 22-year-old has shown really good form since the West Indies tour. Before this brilliant century, he had registered scores of 64, 43, 98*, 82*, and 33 in the last five innings. He missed a well-deserved century in the third match against West Indies, when the rain ended the Indian innings and he was unbeaten on 98*.

Even in the first match against Zimbabwe, he finished on an unbeaten 82 as the hosts didn't post a big target. The 22-year-old shared an important 140-run partnership for the third wicket with Ishan Kishan (50 off 61), helping India cross the 200-run mark.

In the end, India won the match by 13 runs to complete a 3-0 whitewash. Gill ended the series with the most runs as he scored 245 runs in three innings at an average and strike rate of 122.50 and 120.69, respectively.
