ICC penalised IND-PAK; Here's why both teams were penalised to put an extra fielder in 30-yard cricle

The match between India and Pakistan turned out to be a blockbuster of a contest on Sunday. It ended in the favour of the Men in Blue, which once looked in Pakistan's hand. However, Babar Azam made a very big mistake that cost his country this match.

In fact, the same mistake was made by Rohit Sharma in the first innings, but it didn't hurt India a lot. But in the case of Pakistan, it cost them the game as they were forced to put one extra fielder in the 30-yard cricle in the final overs.

It came in favour of the Indians and the duo of Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja scored well over 40 runs in the last four overs to seal the deal for India. But why were both teams were penalised to put an extra fielder in the inner cricle and what made them do this.

It came as a shock to many cricket fans from both nations. However, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has cleared all the confusion and has opened up on that situation. In the latest statement released, the ICC explained why both India and Pakistan were forced to put one extra fielder in the inner circle.

They said that both teams were not able to bowl the first ball of the final over at the decided or scheduled time. And as per the law introduced in January, a team will be penalised if they don't meet this requirement and will have to put an extra fielder in the 30-yard-circle.

Furthermore, the ICC added, "The in-match penalties are in addition to the sanctions for slow over rate outlined in Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, and the same restriction will be in place at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia in October and November this year."

If you are wondering that what was the requirement for such rule or law in cricket, so the ICC also spoke on that. They said that it was all because the ICC panel wanted to improve the pace for both innings to be played in a game.

On Sunday, India were not able to complete their 18 overs in the scheduled time, which resulted in putting five fielders in the last five overs. And as everyone knows, the final two overs can cause chaos in the T20 format.

On the other hand, in the chase, the same situation arose with Pakistan as well, and they were forced to do this for the last three overs, which resulted in India's favour. The pair of Hardik and Jadeja scored 32 runs in the last three overs to win the game.
