South Africa announces 15-member squad for 2022 T20 World Cup, star batter misses out
The mega event of the 2022 T20 World Cup is just one month away. Every team is preparing for the marquee tournament. Australia and England have already announced their squads for the World Cup, and now Cricket South Africa (CSA) has also named their 15-member team for the tournament.
South Africa's squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 has been announced. One surprise absentee is star batter Rassie Van der Dussen. During the recently completed second Test against England, the right-hander fractured his left index finger. The 33-year-old has been a crucial member of the Proteas team for a while, so this will definitely be a blow to their chances.
Youngster Tristan Stubbs, who impressed everyone with his hitting ability, has been added to the 15-player squad in the absence of Van der Dussen. The young dasher, who just recently made his international debut, has shown off his power-hitting skills, which has led to his first World Cup call-up.
Meanwhile, the rest of the squad includes the likes of David Miller, Quinton de Kock, Kagiso Rabada, and Tabraiz Shamsi. Rillee Rossouw's existence will surely add firepower to the batting order. However, picking the playing XI can prove to be a headache for the South African think tank.
However, the presence of some quality all-rounders like Dwaine Pretorius, Wayne Parnell, and Keshav Maharaj will ensure that South Africa will bat deep and pose a significant threat to opposing teams.
Along with Kagiso Rabada, other bowlers like Anrich Nortje, Lungi Ngidi, and Wayne Parnell will enjoy bowling in Australian conditions with extra bounce. It will not be a wrong statement to say that this attack is certainly the best in the competition.
Temba Bavuma is back in the side and will lead the team in the tournament. He would like to end South Africa's World Cup trophy drought. This team performed really well in the last T20 World Cup in the UAE and won four out of their five group matches. But unfortunately, due to NRR, they couldn't qualify for the semi-finals.
