Sandeep Lamichhane, the captain of Nepal's cricket team, has been accused of raping a 17-year-old girl in a hotel room in Kathmandu. The local police confirmed this on Thursday. On Tuesday, a teen-aged girl filed a FIR at Kathmandu's Gaushala Metropolitan Police Circle, accusing 22-year-old Lamichhane of raping her in a hotel room three weeks ago.

In accordance with the complaint made at the Police Circle Gaushala, Sandeep is accused of taking the girl on a visit to various locations in Kathmandu and Bhaktapur on August 21 before raping her that same night in a hotel in Kathmandu. However, police stated that they are gathering information about the incident, including CCTV footage, and that nothing can be said until a thorough investigation has been conducted.

Lamichhane is the part of the ongoing season of the Caribbean Premier League. In 2018, when he made his debut for the Delhi Capitals team and made history by becoming the first ever player from Nepal to compete in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

He had just been appointed the skipper of Nepal's national cricket squad. The Cricket Association of Nepal was cited in a press report here as saying that Lamichhane, who has been accused of sexually assaulting a minor, has, however, denied the allegations and asserted his innocence.

During a phone call with officials from the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), he claimed to be innocent. He also confirmed that he would return to Nepal after the exclusion of the Caribbean Premier League.
