IPL Auction to take place in December for 2023 season: Reports

The TATA IPL 2023 saw the new franchise Gujarat Titans win the title in their maiden season. Two new teams were added in the last edition, making it a 10-team tournament. And with more teams, the number of players also went up. However, the world saw a mega earthquake in 2022, with so many players coming under the hammer.

However, now, with so many injuries and non-performance, every franchise will look to add some more valuable players to their team that can do well in the next season in 2023. Thus, the mini-auction prior to the next edition will also take place.

As per some media reports, it is learnt that the auction for IPL 2023 is likely to take place in the middle of December later this year. One of the franchises has confirmed it after getting a strong hint from the IPL administration about the upcoming schedule.

However, there is no official confirmation that has been given, nor has any location been decided. But as per the report from Cricbuzz, it will be a kind of mini-auction. Although the BCCI confirmed that the next season will see the home-away structure, it is likely to start from the fourth week of March.

So the salary cap has been raised to 95 crore, which is 5 crore more than it was last year, each team will enter the auction with reserves of at least INR 5 crore. The cash balance may increase further if a franchise releases or trades its players.

The report further suggests by Cricbuzz that all the franchises have been informed that the IPL auctions for the upcoming season will take place in December. The decision was only made after receiving approval from the 10 franchises.

On Thursday, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly confirmed that from the next season, all the matches will be played in 10 different locations, as per all ten teams, and every team will play half of their league matches at home and half away. He also confirmed that the much-awaited inaugural women's IPL will be held in January next year.
