Here's the reason why Dinesh Karthik wears a unique Helmet as compared to others

Since the retirement of the former Indian skipper, MS Dhoni, India has always been in search of a finisher who can do some finishing duties under pressure. And the long search came to an end with a totally different version of the veteran wicket-keeper, Dinesh Karthik.

DK performed adimirably well in the TATA IPL 2023, which earned him the chance to make his comeback to the Indian side after a long wait of three years. And since then, he has become a vital part of the Indian side. He has also shown his ability and finishing skills at an international level as well.

On September 23, in the second T20I against Australia, he gave some glimpses of his ability and finished off the game with two shots for India. He came out to bat in the last over and hit one six and one four to end the chase and remained unbeaten on 10* off 2.

However, apart from his blistering knocks, there is something strange worth noticing when it comes to Dinesh Karthik. If you have followed Indian cricket closely, then you might know that the design of DK's helmet is always a bit different from others.

The 37-year-old wears a totally unique and different design, which looks a lot different from other helmets. The helmet is similar to those used in baseball and football matches. It is not sphere-shaped and has no central bulge. DK's helmet is obviously equipped with additional metal grills to guard against the hard cricket ball.

However, there are some possible explanations for why Dinesh Karthik favours these types of helmets over more conventional ones. One of the first reasons could be that these helmets fit better on the head and are more ergonomically sound. They are also lighter.

Another reason may be that the tiny gaps at the top, sides, and back can also improve ventilation and sweat evaporation. As we saw, the colour of the helmet has also changed as a result of India's new cool-blue jersey in the ongoing series against Australia.

However, the floodlights make DK's helmet shine like a blue sun, making it stand out more than ever. This gives the impression that Karthik has constructed an igloo around his head. Apart from the 37-year-old, a few other cricketers have also tried helmets with a similar kind of design in the past.

Those players include Kumar Sangakkara, James Taylor, Stuart Broad, and Rahul Tripathi. Going off topic a bit, these helmets also seem better to me, and the players who had the guts to move on from the traditional ones come across as really courageous.
