Virat Kohli went past Sachin Tendulkar to register a staggering world record with an 82-run knock against Pakistan

The world witnessed one of the best innings ever played in the history of cricket when India clinched a nail-biting win on Sunday at the Mebourne Cricket Ground. And it came from the bat of none other than one of the great chase masters, Virat Kohli.

The former Indian captain stood between Pakistan and a win and pulled off an unbelievable chase, which looked impossible at one point. Having lost four wickets for just 31 runs, India saw a match-turning partnership of 113 runs between Hardik Pandya (40) and Virat Kohli.

That fifth wicket partnership helped India inch closer to the target, but it wasn't that easy. The equation came to 48 runs off the last three overs, when Virat opened his arm and showed why he is regarded as the best chase master in the game.

In fact, he remained unbeaten till the very end, and India won the game by four wickets off the very last ball of the match. The 33-year-old was not out at 82* off 53 balls, hitting six boundaries and four sixes, and broke multiple records during his match-winning knock.

Notably, prior to this innings, Virat was equal with Sachin Tendulkar for the most 50+ scores in the history of white-ball ICC events. Both had 23 fifty-plus scores and after Sunday, Virat has now become the player with the most 50+ scores in history with 24 in total.

Apart from that, he has also crossed Rohit Sharma and become the highest run-getter in T20 internationals. Rohit, who only made four runs against Pakistan, has 3741 runs in 143 games, while Virat now has 3794 runs in 110 games.

However, it was the 11th half-century for the former Indian captain in T20 World Cup history, which is also the most by any batter, and he has now become the leading run-getter from India in this tournament overall. In fact, he is third highest run-getter in T20 World Cup.

Virat has scored 927 runs in 20 innings at a staggering average of 84.27 and is trailing Chris Gayle (965) and Mahela Jayawardene (1016). Based on his recent form, it appeared that Virat could pass those two in the next innings.
