Record Alert: Tamil Nadu batsman Narayan Jagadeesan goes past Rohit Sharma & Kumar Sangakkara with his epic 277-knock in Vijay Hazare 2022
One of the best domestic competitions for a 50-over game in India, the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022, is underway. A total of 28 teams, divided into 5 groups, are competing in the competition. But there is one name that has set the tournament on fire.
And he is none other than Tamil Nadu wicketkeeper and opening batter Narayan Jagadeesan, who is scoring tons of runs and is currently the leading run-scorer in the competition.
It is just not it; on Monday, he went on to break some of the world records that had been there in the game of cricket for a long time and were impossible to surpass. On Monday, in a game against Arunachal Pradesh, he went on to play an innings that was just out of this world.
He also broke the record of Rohit Sharma for the highest individual score in a limited-over game. Jagadeesan played a marathon innings of 277 runs off just 141 balls, with 25 fours and 15 sixes to break Rohit's 264 against Sri Lanka.
With this inning, he has registered the highest individual score by a batter in a limited-overs game. Notably, it was also the fifth consecutive century for him in the ongoing tournament, and that is another world record.
He has also broken the record of Sri Lanka legend Kumar Sangakkara of four successive hundreds in a List A game. Sanga made it in the 2015 ODI World Cup, when he scored 105*, 117*, 104 and 124 against Bangladesh, England, Australia, and Scotland, respectively.
Jagadeesan became the first batsman ever to score five consecutive centuries in a limited-overs game. On the other hand, he also surpases the likes of Virat Kohli, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Prithvi Shaw, and Devdutt Padikkal for most centuries in a single edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. All these players had four centuries in a single edition.
