Kolkata Knight Riders owner Shah Rukh Khan’s old interview is going viral ahead of the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. Many fans would know that the previous mega auction of the Indian Premier League happened in the year 2018.

At that time, MS Dhoni was going to return to the Chennai Super Kings squad after playing two seasons for the Rising Pune Supergiant franchise. CSK received a temporary suspension from the league, which is why Rising Pune Supergiant and Gujarat Lions replaced the Chennai-based franchise and the Rajasthan Royals for two seasons.

Players of the two franchises had permission to play for the other two teams, and Rising Pune Supergiant signed MS Dhoni as their captain ahead of their debut IPL season. As per the original contract, RPS only existed in the IPL for two years. They left the tournament before 2018.

At that time, MS Dhoni was a free agent for a brief while before the Chennai Super Kings decided to retain him ahead of the IPL 2018 Mega Auction. Here’s what the Kolkata Knight Riders owner Shah Rukh Khan had said about MS Dhoni at that time:

“Yaar main toh usko apna pajama bech ke bhi kharid lun, wo aaye toh auction mein. (Brother, I can even sell my pants to buy Dhoni. He has to come to the auction for that).”

MS Dhoni will play for the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2022

Like 2018, the IPL has a mega auction in 2022 as well. MS Dhoni has been retained by the Chennai Super Kings once again.

Some reports claimed that Dhoni wanted to go into the auction pool so that the Chennai Super Kings could retain other players and sign him for a cheaper price. However, CSK did not risk that because everyone knows that all franchises would go for Dhoni because of his star power and captaincy.
