India's playing XI when Ishant Sharma played a T20 game for India almost 10 years ago

India Ishant Sharma

Ishant Sharma has been in good form in IPL 2023. It is surprising that he has hardly played any T20Is for India. The last game he played was way back in 2013. It was against Australia. A lot has changed in the Indian Team since then. In this article, we take a look at India's playing XI when Ishant Sharma played a T20 game for India almost 10 years ago.

Openers: Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan

Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan were in India's playing XI when Ishant Sharma played a T20 game for India almost 10 years ago. Both these players have played a lot together for both Team India and in Dhawan's case, also with Delhi. Back then, Rohit and Shikhar were the first-choice options for India when it comes to opening in the white-ball formats. While Rohit is currently the captain of Team India, Shikhar is out of the squad but has a good chance to make a comeback.

Middle-Order: Suresh Raina, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni (C&WK)

It is a legendary middle-order for this squad. It was not a surprise that the squad chased a total of over 200 against the Aussies in this game. It was a Yuvi special that put India across the line. Suresh Raina was India's No.3 option in T20s for a while before Virat Kohli took over.

When it comes to the lower middle-order, not many combinations have worked for Team India. However, Yuvraj and MSD were extremely successful and delivered at the highest level on multiple occasions. MSD was also the captain and the wicket-keeper in this squad.

All-Rounders: Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja was in India's playing XI when Ishant Sharma played a T20 game for India almost 10 years ago. Jaddu was the main all-rounder in that squad. While he was more of a bowling all-rounder back then, it is the opposite right now. Even now, Jaddu is the first option when it comes to the spin-bowling all-rounder's group, although Axar Patel is slowly making a move.

Bowlers: R Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ishant Sharma and Vinay Kumar

Ashwin was in the Indian Team across formats then. So was the case with Bhuvi. However, after a few years, both of them got restricted to individual formats. While Ashwin started to dominate in Tests, Bhuvi operated mainly with the white-ball.

Both Vinay Kumar and Ishant Sharma showed a lot of promise at the beginning in the T20 format. However, they were not able to kick on. Ishant gave away 52 runs in his spell in this game and never found an opportunity again, till now.
