Shubman Gill or Suryakumar Yadav? Rohit Sharma speaks about team's combination in 1st Test vs Australia
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy match between India and Australia will commence on Thursday in Nagpur, when India and Australia will take on each other in the first test of the four-match series. India will have to look at the players who can perform well so that the hosts can take a lead in the all-important series.
However, India will be without Risbabh Pant, who suffered a car accident, while India will also miss Shreyas Iyer, who has yet to completely recover. Both were in form and scored runs against Bangladesh in last test series.
Meanwhile, the opening combination is also in the news. Will Rohit Sharma stick with KL Rahul or will he persist with the in-form opener Shubman Gill, who has scored plenty of runs recently? However, if Rahul opens the inning with Rohit, then Gill can also be an option in the middle order.
Surykumar Yadav is another option that India has in the middle order. Both Gill and Suryakumar have scored runs in the white-ball format, and it will be a tough competition. However, the Indian skipper had his say on this topic during the pre-match conference on Wednesday.
Rohit said, "Shubman has been in supreme form, a lot of big hundreds, on the other hand, SKY has shown what he brings to the range, but we have not decided whom we will go with."
Rohit pointed out that both batters are in good form, but the decision will be made after assisting the pitch. On the other hand, not having Pant in the team can prove to be the deciding point in the series for India. He was the difference between India and Australia in the last BGT series in 2021.
Rohit also said that India will surely miss a batter like Pant in the middle who can change the game on his own. However, he also said that the team has gotten players to back up, and they have talked with them and told them their roles.
