Virat Kohli is set to step down as the captain of the Indian T20 cricket team post the T20 World Cup 2021 that is being played in the UAE and in Oman. Dinesh Karthik feels that Rohit Sharma should be the Indian team's white-ball captain.

Virat Kohli had earlier, before the commencement of the T20 World Cup 2021, announced that he will be stepping down from India's captaincy role as well as that he will be stepping down from his IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore's captaincy as well.

It is believed through various reports that Virat Kohli has made such decision to manage his workload. Virat Kohli is the captain of the Indian team in all formats as well as the captain of RCB team in IPL.

There is lots of gossip going around the Indian cricket fraternity. Questions are being asked as to who should captain India next. Former Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik has stated that it should be Rohit Sharma.

Dinesh Karthik in a live show on the Cricbuzz YouTube channel, he stated that Rohit Sharma, who is quite popularly known as the Hitman among the fans, should be given the opportunity to lead the Indian team all of white ball cricket for the next 2 World Cup events, the T20 World Cup in 2022 and the 50 over World Cup in 2023.

He further stated that he should be given credit for all he has done and deserves an opportunity to represent the country as the captain and should be allowed to show his skills as a captain.

He also added that Rohit Sharma has achieved success in the limited matches that he has captained the Indian cricket team. He stated that he should be given the opportunity to captain the team before KL Rahul or Rishabh Pant takes over the reins.

India in T20 World Cup 2021

The Indian cricket team is currently playing in the T20 World Cup 2021 that is being played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and in Oman.

The Virat Kohli led side got off a disastrous start as he suffered their first ever defeat against Pakistan in any World Cup events, that too by 10 wickets. That was followed by an 8 wickets defeat against New Zealand in their 2nd match.

But they came back strong as they hammered past the Afghanistan team. It was Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul who set up teh foundation with brilliant 74 runs and 69 runs inning respectively. The finishing touch was given by both Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant, who both scored 35 and 27 runs respectively.
