Lucknow franchise appoint Gautam Gambhir as mentor - Reports

The Lucknow franchise of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League has made a big signing ahead of the mega auction. The new team has roped in 2011 World Cup winning player Gautam Gambhir as their mentor for the new season. 

In an exclusive report, Times of India stated that the two-time IPL winning captain will join former Zimbabwe player Andy Flower in the team management of the Lucknow franchise. In case you didn’t know, Flower is the new head coach of the Lucknow franchise. 

Gautam Gambhir played for the Delhi Capitals and the Kolkata Knight Riders in his Indian Premier League career. He was very successful player during his stint with KKR. As the captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders, Gambhir won two IPL trophies. 

Sources in the know told TOI earlier today: 

“Gambhir brings with him a proven track record in the IPL as captain for KKR. He also has a penchant for grooming young talent which Lucknow feels will suit them well ahead of what is expected to be a tough initiation into an increasingly competitive IPL scenario.” 

Which players will play for the Lucknow franchise in the 2022 IPL season? 

The Lucknow franchise has not made an official announcement as of now regarding the signing of the players. They are allowed to sign three players before the IPL 2022 Mega Auction begins. 

According to reports, the Lucknow franchise is planning to sign the trio of KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan and Rashid Khan. If reports are to be believed then Lucknow will offer a mega deal worth INR 20 crore to Rahul, while Rashid is being offered a whopping 16 crore contract. 

It will be interesting to see if the reports prove to be accurate. The presence of Gautam Gambhir and Andy Flower will help the Lucknow franchise a lot in IPL 2022.
