Narayan Jagadeesan did not have a great IPL 2020 season in the United Arab Emirates. The wicket-keeper batsman from Tamil Nadu was a part of his home franchise Chennai Super Kings.

Although MS Dhoni kept the wickets for the Chennai Super Kings, he included Jagadeesan in the playing XI as a regular batsman. Unfortunately, Narayan could score only 33 runs in the five matches he played for CSK.

The Super Kings still retained him for IPL 2021. It seems like they have made the perfect call because Narayan Jagadeesan returned to form in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He is the second highest run-scorer right now, with 326 runs in six innings for Tamil Nadu.

Jagadeesan’s batting brilliance has been the reason behind Tamil Nadu’s success in the competition. Tamil Nadu has qualified for the semifinals and will play against Rajasthan tomorrow.

Talking to New Indian Express, Narayan Jagadeesan disclosed that Michael Hussey, who is CSK’s batting coach, and Tamil Nadu skipper Dinesh Karthik played a vital role in his rise. Here’s what Jagadeesan had to say after his top-quality performances in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy:

"I was fortunate to have had a lot of conversations with Hussey during the IPL. The changes that he told were not massive but there were many small things to brings out better results. And here, I had many conversations with Dinesh Karthik which helped."

Narayan Jagadeesan added that he prepared a different game plan for each match. This strategy helped him tackle the bowlers better than his normal approach of playing the deliveries as they come.

It will be interesting to see if Narayan Jagadeesan could lead Tamil Nadu to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title. The Chennai Super Kings fans will be very excited after seeing Narayan perform so well in the competition.
