'People took it the other way': Ruturaj Gaikwad defends MS Dhoni's spark remark about CSK youngsters

Ruturaj Gaikwad was the biggest positive for the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2020. While Sam Curran was the most impressive foreign player for the 3-time champions this year, Gaikwad won everyone’s hearts with his match-winning performances in the last three fixtures.

It was because of his three consecutive half-tons that the Super Kings managed to avoid a last-place finish on the IPL 2020 points table. However, before his consistent run in the United Arab Emirates, there was a big question mark over his place in the playing XI.

Gaikwad had initially struggled to perform well. Thus, the team management gave opportunities to the experienced stars. Ultimately, even they could not light up the tournament for the Chennai Super Kings as the backroom staff gave another chance to the young players.

There was a comment made by MS Dhoni which went viral on the internet during IPL 2020. He said that he did not see the ‘spark’ in CSK youngsters this year, which is why he gave the opportunities to the veteran players.

Talking to The Telegraph India, Ruturaj Gaikwad defended his captain MS Dhoni and said that people took his comment in a wrong way. Here’s what he said to the source.

“I didn’t read much into what MS had said and I never felt he intended that way. He must have thought of something and said, but people took it the other way. What he said didn’t matter to me or didn’t even get to my head.”

The 23-year-old further mentioned that MS Dhoni always helped him in the nets, which assisted him in performing better. Not only Ruturaj Gaikwad, but Dhoni was also seen talking to the young players of other franchises in IPL 2020. This was a positive sign because Dhoni is regarded as one of the best players of all time.
