Pune Warriors India is one of the IPL franchises that did not exist in the tournament for a very long time. However, a few players who represented that team are still an active part of the game. In this article, we take a look at the playing XI comprising active cricketers who represented Pune Warriors in IPL.

Of course, only a few players from that team are actively playing in the IPL. Rest are either playing for their countries or are a part of domestic cricket. We have compiled a playing XI consisting of such cricketers.

Openers: Tamim Iqbal and Mitchell Marsh

Tamim Iqbal and Mitchell Marsh will open the batting for this playing XI comprising active cricketers who represented Pune Warriors in IPL. Not many Bangladeshi cricketers have played in the IPL. Tamim Iqbal got just one opportunity in the IPL and that was with PWI. Mitchell Marsh is still playing in the IPL. He is currently a part of the Delhi Capitals squad. He has an important role to play in the ongoing campaign.

Middle-Order: Manish Pandey, Steve Smith (C) and Tim Paine (WK)

Manish Pandey is yet another former Pune Warriors cricketer currently playing for Delhi Capitals. The Karnataka cricketer also plays domestic cricket every season. Steve Smith is not playing in IPL 2023 but is a part of the commentatory panel. He could make a comeback next season. Tim Paine is not playing in BBL or IPL but plays domestic cricket. Since we needed a keeper for this squad, Tim Paine makes the cut.

All-Rounders: Harpreet Bhatia, James Faulkner, Parvez Rasool and Wayne Parnell

It will be a strong all-rounder's unit for this playing XI comprising active cricketers who represented Pune Warriors in IPL. Harpreet Bhatia is a talented cricketer who just could not hit form in IPL. For Chattisgarh in domestic cricket, Harpreet does well every season. James Faulkner has played IPL in the past but has not featured for a while now. He is a good bowling all-rounder and so is Wayne Parnell, who operates for RCB right now. Parvez Rasool from J&K will lead the spin attack for this XI. The player is in bad form right now and does not hold a place in the state squad, too.

Bowlers: Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ishwar Pandey

Bhuvneshwar Kumar will lead the pace attack for this XI. Although Bhuvi started his career at RCB, it was at PWI that he got consistent chances. After he left PWI, Bhuvi joined SRH and the player is a part of the franchise since then. Ishwar Pandey also had a peak while playing in the IPL but could not make it to Team India. He has also lost his place in the Madhya Pradesh setup but he will hope to make a comeback with some strong performances at the division level.
