Brisbane Heat Women has become the new home of Indian women’s cricket team star Poonam Yadav. This year, quite a few members of the Indian women’s cricket team have received contracts from the Big Bash League clubs, and Poonam has become the latest addition to that list.

Earlier today, the Brisbane-based Women’s Big Bash League team announced that Poonam Yadav will be replacing Amelia Kerr in their squad for the upcoming tournament.

Kerr has taken a break from cricket for mental well-being. Thus, the New Zealand women’s cricket team player was unavailable for the Women’s Big Bash League 2021-22. In her absence, Indian women’s cricket team leg-breaks specialist Poonam Yadav will don the Brisbane Heat Women jersey.

In case you didn’t know, Yadav had performed well for the country in the previous edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup hosted by Australia in 2020. The Indian women’s cricket team reached the final of that tournament. Unfortunately, they lost the final against the Australian women’s cricket team.

We are clear on how we can best utilize her talents in our line-up: Brisbane Heat Women’s coach on Poonam Yadav

Soon after the announcement of Poonam Yadav’s signing, Brisbane Heat Women coach Ashley Noffke said:

“When we lost Amelia Kerr, we were confident we could back our group to give a good account of themselves regardless but adding Poonam’s skill and her competitiveness is a huge result. She is a different type of bowler to Melie, and we are clear on how we can best utilize her talents in our line-up.”

Noffke concluded by saying that the captain of the Brisbane Heat Women in the Women’s Big Bash League, Jess Jonassen, has played against Poonam Yadav and was looking forward to playing with her in the upcoming tournament. Yadav has scalped 98 wickets in 71 T20Is.
