Day 2 of the first test between India and Australia ended with a healthy lead for Team India. The hosts ended the second day with a lead of 144 runs in their first inning over the visitors. For India, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel are unbeaten with their respective half centuries.

Both batters added an unbeaten 81 runs for the 8th wicket. Axar is unbeaten on 52 runs, including eight fours, while Jadeja, who took five wickets in the first inning, has had a dream comeback so far. He scored his 18th half-century and has scored 66 not out with nine fours.

With his all-round performance in the first test in Nagpur, Jadeja has achieved a rare record. He has become now the only Indian players to score a half-century and taking a five-wicket haul in the same game five times in total.

The 34-year-old has broken the record of former legendary Indian all-rounder Kapil Dev, who did it four times. Team India started Day 2 at 77/1. The Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and Ravi Ashwin (23) added 42 runs for the second wicket. However, after that, India lost Cheteshwar Pujara (7), Virat Kohli (12), and Suryakumar Yadav (8) in quick succession.

Rohit kept going and scored his 9th test century after a wait of almost one and a half year. He scored 120 runs with 15 fours and two sixes before getting out. Then, debutant KS Bharat couldn't do much and got out after scoring 8 runs.

However, after that, the pair of Jadeja and Axar took India to a lead of over 100. For Australia, debutant Todd Murphy was the pick of the bowler who picked up a five-wicket-haul on his debut. He has taken 5/82 so far. while Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon have picked up one wicket each.
