Watch: "Bizarre BBL moment"- Batter gets "hit-wicket" without touching the stumps; leaves fans in shock

Cricket is a game of many unexpected things, and it never fails to surprise its fans in different ways. Some brilliant fielding moments, incredible batting performances, or special bowling efforts always make the fans happy. One such moment happened on Thursday in a match of the ongoing Big Bash League tournament.

The BBL 2022-23 season is underway, and the third game is being played between the Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Renegades at the Cazaly's Stadium in Cairns. It was Brisbane that won the toss and chose to bowl.

However, in the 9th over of the first inning, something totally weird happened when Mark Steketee came out to bowl. On the 2nd ball of the over, Steketee bowled a short ball and batter Nic Maddinson pulled the ball and the bails came off.

It looked that the batter's leg has hit the stumps and he started to walk as he was dismissed hit-wicket. Every Brisbane player started to celebrate the dismissal. However, after the reply was shown, it was confirmed that the batter was not even close to the stumps.

With the wind, the bails went off on their own. Later, the third umpire confirmed that it wasn't out, and the batter was called back. It was the most bizarre scene to ever happen on the cricket field. We have seen ball hitting the stump and bails not coming off.

But this was the first time the bails came off on their own. Speaking of the game, the Melbourne Renegades made 166/7 in their 20 overs. Skipper Nic Maddinson played a brilliant knock of 87 off 49 balls with 10 fours and three sixes.

For Brisbane Heat, Matthew Kuhnemann took three wickets and James Bazley took two wickets. In reply, the Brisbane Heat are at 34/3 in 6.2 overs.
