Robin Uthappa wants to score 1,000 runs in one IPL season

Chennai Super Kings’ newest member Robin Uthappa desires to become the first batsman in IPL history to aggregate 1,000 runs in a single season.

Uthappa mentioned this during an interview with ESPNCricinfo, where he was asked to name a record that he would like to create in the IPL. So far, no batsman has scored a thousand runs in the same season.

Here’s what Uthappa had to say about it:

“To be the first guy to score 1000 runs in an IPL season. One of the things I consciously do as a human being is try to push myself outside of my comfort zone so that I can experience growth. I think that's one thing that drives me in life as a person. I am really looking forward to that.”

Robin Uthappa is the only cricketer in the history of the Indian Premier League who won the Orange Cap title in the same season where his franchise captured the IPL championship. He accomplished this feat during the 2014 edition of the IPL.

Robin Uthappa wants to break Virat Kohli’s record

The highest aggregate in a single IPL season is 973 runs, recorded by the Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli. If Robin Uthappa wants to touch the 1,000-run mark, he will break Virat Kohli’s record as well during the process.

Uthappa has been away from the international circuit for quite some time. However, if he does score 1,000 runs for the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2021, he could return to the Indian cricket team before the ICC T20 World Cup.

The fans should note that a player can play a maximum of 17 IPL matches in a single season. So, if Robin wants to amass 1,000 runs, he needs to score 58.82 runs in the 17 games that he plays.
