Sourav Ganguly provides an update on IPL 2021 Mega Auction

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has made colossal changes to Indian cricket in just a short amount of time. The former Indian skipper green-lighted the idea for the first pink-ball Test in the country, and the Indian team will now battle the Australian team in a pink-ball Test Down Under very soon.
Talking about the IPL season that happened under Ganguly’s watch, the COVID-19 pandemic spoiled the BCCI’s plans, but still, they managed to organize a season in 2020, with the United Arab Emirates hosting the competition.
The league stage of the season has ended, with the Mumbai Indians, the Sunrisers Hyderabad, the Royal Challengers Bangalore, and the Delhi Capitals qualifying for the playoffs. For the first time in the IPL history, the Chennai Super Kings were a part of the IPL, but they could not make it to the Top 4.
CSK skipper MS Dhoni hinted that the squad will undergo major changes soon, and a lot depended on if the BCCI conducted a mega auction before the 2021 season. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly was recently asked if there is a mega auction next year. Here’s what he replied to Hindustan Times:
“We haven’t decided anything yet. Let this season conclude, we will take a call.”
Talking about the chances of hosting the IPL 2021 season in India, Ganguly said:
“Hopefully the vaccine will be out by that time and we can host it.”
Still, he did not rule out the possibility that the United Arab Emirates could host the competition again next year. IPL 2021 will happen in four-five months’ time only. Thus, it is unlikely that there would be a mega auction. The teams would have a proper idea of their resources and the competition level will only go up if a mini-auction happens before the 14th IPL season.
