Sri Lanka surpass India in World Test Championship points table with win over West Indies

Sri Lanka leapfrog India in World Test Championship Points Table

After a convincing win by 187 runs against the West Indies cricket team, the host Sri Lanka have jumped India to top the World Test Championship 2021-2023 points table.

The Sri Lankan cricket team is playing a 2 match Test series against the visiting West Indies, that kicked-off with the first match from 21st of November in Galle.

The Lankan Lions recorded a massive victory over the West Indies team in the 1st Test, after a stunning performance from their captain Dimuth Karunaratne.

The Sri Lankan captain played an inning of 147 runs in the first inning, and followed that up by another 83 runs in the 2nd inning.

Batting first, Sri Lanka posted 386 runs on the board, losing all of their 10 wickets. Dimuth Karunaratne scored 147 runs, while Dhananjaya de Silva and Pathum Nissanka added 61 and 56 runs respectively.

In response to that, West Indies put up 230 runs with Kyle Myers and Kraigg Brathwaite the only players to touch 40 runs mark. They trail Sri Lanka by 156 runs.

To that, Sri Lanka added another 191 runs, with against Karunaratne scoring the most of the runs, while Angelo Mathews suported him on the other end, and setting up a target of 348 runs for the Caribbean giants.

While chasing the target, the West Indies team just couldn't get going as they lost 6 wickets for just 18 runs. Somehow they battled hard for a draw, but it was always a tough ask and West Indies bundled out for 160 run in their 2nd inning.

And this win has given Sri Lanka a massive win as they now find themselves at the top of the ICC World Test Championship 2021-2023 points table, even ahead of India.

Sri Lanka have got 12 points while India have 26 points. But the ICC counts the percentage of points (PCT) as the most deciding factor. And Sri Lanka have higher PCT than India, because Sri Lanka have only 1 match and won that, whereas India have played 4 matches, of which India have won 2 and lost 1 and drawn 1, which means India's PCT is 54.17, while Sri Lanka maintain perfect record of 100.
