Sunrisers Hyderabad sign up Jason Roy as Mitchell Marsh replacement for IPL 2021

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad has announced that they have signed England batsman Jason Roy as a replacement for Mitchell Marsh for the upcoming edition.

"Sunrisers Hyderabad have signed up England batsman Jason Roy as replacement for Mitchell Marsh, who has made himself unavailable for the entire season owing to personal reasons," a media release by IPL stated.

Mitchell Marsh pulled out of the IPL 2021, citing Bubble fatigue. As per the latest IPL bio-bubble security protocol, Marsh would have had to quarantine for seven-days and then spend the entire IPL season in the bubble, which means he would have had to stay in the bubble for a full 60 days.

Coincidentally, Marsh missed out on most of the competition in the last edition in UAE after the Hyderabad franchise bought him for a base price of 2 crores in the 2020 IPL Auction.

The Aussie all-rounder twisted his ankle during a match against Royal Challengers Bangalore. West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder replaced him.

Jason Roy's inclusion will mean that Sunrisers Hyderabad will field a very attacking top-order with David Warner, Jonny Bairstow, and Kane Williamson.

The Englishman went unsold in the IPL auction held earlier this year. Now he will join the Hyderabad-based franchise for the base price of 2 crores.

Jason Roy made his IPL debut with Gujarat Lions in 2017 and then also featured for Delhi Daredevils, now known as Delhi Capitals, in 2018. In total eight matches he has played in the Indian Premier League, he has scored 179 runs.
In the recently concluded India tour, Roy was in top-class form, as in the T20I series, as he finished as the 4th highest run-scorer and will be looking to make all the opportunity count. Sunrisers Hyderabad will play their first on 11th April against Kolkata Knight Riders.
