Venkatesh Iyer

It would not be an understatement to say that 2021 was the year of Venkatesh Iyer. The Madhya Pradesh all-rounder made his Indian Premier League debut for the Kolkata Knight Riders and reached the IPL Final in his first-ever season.

Soon after, the BCCI named him as a net bowler for the Indian cricket team for the T20 World Cup 2021 which took place in the United Arab Emirates and Oman. Midway through the T20 World Cup, the selectors asked Venkatesh Iyer to come back to India.

The reason behind his early return was that the 2021-22 domestic cricket season was going to begin soon. The selectors wished to give Venkatesh Iyer some game time before selecting him in the squad for the New Zealand T20I series at home.

Iyer made his T20I debut against the New Zealand cricket team at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. He scored a four on the first ball that he faced. During the same series, Venkatesh also picked up his maiden international wicket.

Now, he is soon going to board a flight to South Africa as the BCCI have named him in the ODI squad for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup Super League series against the South African cricket team. The chances of Venkatesh Iyer making his ODI debut soon are very high.
