When Suraj Randiv decided to switch to Australian club Dandenong Down Under

Former Sri Lankan off-spin bowler Suraj Randiv had moved to Australia in 2019 and joined local club Dandenong. Very few fans know about this move because the league in which Randiv plays is not so well-known.

Suraj Randiv was among the top Sri Lankan off-spinners once upon a time. The Sri Lankan, who celebrates his 36th birthday today, played his last domestic match for Galle CC in April 2019. Post that, he moved Down Under and signed a contract with a Premier Cricket club.

Tillakaratne Dilshan followed Randiv’s footsteps and made his Premier Cricket debut for Casey South-Melbourne Club earlier this month. Incidentally, Randiv was present in the opposition team as the Aussie players got to play with two Sri Lankan veterans.

Suraj Randiv was a part of the Sri Lankan squad of the 2011 Cricket World Cup. He played 12 Tests, 31 ODIs, and seven T20Is for the Sri Lankan cricket team. Many Indian fans would remember Randiv because of the deliberate no-ball he bowled against India, when Virender Sehwag was batting on 99.

The Indian team needed only a solitary run to win the match against Sri Lanka. Sehwag led the run-chase with a fantastic knock at the top. He was just one run away from his well-deserved ton when Randiv decided to over-step so that the match ends with Sehwag on 99*.

Suraj Randiv even played for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. Randiv won the title with the Super Kings in the only season he played. It was the 2011 season, where he took six wickets in eight matches.

The 36-year-old played his last international match for Sri Lanka in 2016. He took 43 Test wickets, 36 ODI wickets, and seven T20I wickets. Randiv’s highest score in international cricket was 56. Randiv recently helped the Aussie batsmen in the nets.
