ATK Mohun Bagan set to sign defender Gursimrat Singh Gill

Hero Indian Super League 2020-2021 season's runners-up ATK Mohun Bagan is set to strengthen the defence line with the arrival of Gursimrat Singh Gill from I-League side Sudeva Delhi FC.

Just before the transfer window closed for all the clubs in Indian football, the Kolkata based legacy club ATK Mohun Bagan were after a defender to replace the outgoing Sandesh Jhingan, who has joined Croatian first division side HNK Sibenik.

The club's ultimate aim was to get the signature of the most talented and young Indian centre-back Anwar Ali Junior, however, his current club Delhi FC were in no mood to let him go.

But, finally ATK Mohun Bagan has signed a talented Indian defender in the form of Gursimrat Singh Gill from I-League side Sudeva Delhi FC, reports IFTWC.

Gursimrat Singh Gill will be making his return to the Indian Super League after having played in the competition for Bengaluru FC and NorthEast United.

Bengaluru FC first spotted him playing for the AIFF Elite Academy and signed him up. But the following year, he was picked up by NorthEast United. After a season with the Highlanders, he made his return to Bengaluru FC in 2018.

He competed for the other Bengalore based FC Bengaluru United in the I-League qualifiers in 2020. He was then snapped up by I-League's new boys Sudeva Delhi FC for their first season in the I-League.

He was a rock solid presence in the defence line for Sudeva Delhi FC. But, since the club opted to field a complete Indian squad and no foreign players, they finished 2nd in the relegation group and overall 8th. Gursimrat played a total of 15 matches last season and scored 2 goals, thanks to his Arial ability.
