Odisha FC sign Brazilian striker Jonathas de Jesus for ISL 2021-2022
Odisha FC has finally got hold of the man that they had been chasing for a while as the Brazilian striker, Jonathas De Jesus has been signed on a year long deal till the Indian Super League 2021-2022 season.
Odisha FC was in dier need of a perfect replacement upfront to replace the outgoing Brazilian striker Diego Mauricio, who scored 12 goals in the 20 matches and was the top scorer for Odisha FC last season. He has now joined Qatari side Al-Shahania SC.
Odisha FC had triggered a deep search to find the right man to replace Diego Mauricio, and what is better than replacing the Brazilian with another Brazilian striker, that is Jonathas de Jesus, well known as Jonathas.
The 32-year-old Brazilian striker was last playing for the UAE Pro League side Sharjah FC and scored 6 goals in 10 matches. He also has the experience of playing in the top-tier of Spain, Germany and Italy.
He has scored 21 goals in the 61 matches that he has played in the Spanish top-tier, the La Liga. Jonathas has also done well in the Bundesliga and in the Italian Serie A, where he has scored 3 and 6 goals respectively.
Odisha FC in Indian Super League 2020-2021
Odisha FC had a season to forget the previous season of the Indian Super League as they finished rock-bottom in the league table with only 2 wins and 12 losses. The only ray of hope or celebration was Diego Mauricio in the their forgetful season.
The club also had to go through some off-the-pitch incident which resulted in the sacking of head coach Stuart Baxter, who has been replaced by Spaniard Kiko Ramirez for the season.
The Odisha based football club had to go through major squad overhaul as the club has brought in as many as 10 players during this summer transfer window. Foreign players like Victor Mongil, Javi Hernandez, Liridon Krasniqi, Héctor Rodas and Aridai Cabrera has joined the squad as the team has hit Goa for the pre-season.
