5 players who can come in IPL as replacements if they perform well in PSL

Martin Guptill and Ali Khan

The 2021 edition of the PSL will happen in Abu Dhabi this month. The competition began in February, but because of the Coronavirus cases inside the bio-bubble, the PCB had to delay the event. Incidentally like PSL, even the IPL had to be postponed indefinitely due to the same reason.

Now, remaining matches of both IPL and PSL will happen in the United Arab Emirates. Since a few international players will not be available for the second half of the 2021 IPL season, the franchises will look to sign replacements for them. PSL will happen this month in the UAE, so the players who do well in PSL 2021 can also earn IPL contracts as replacements. Here are five such players.

1. Martin Guptill can bag an IPL deal if he performs well in PSL

Martin Guptill is all set to play his first season of the Pakistan Super League. Defending champions Karachi Kings signed Guptill in the mini replacement Draft.

Guptill has played for multiple IPL franchises in the past. Unfortunately, he went unsold in IPL Auction 2021. If he scores heaps of runs in PSL, he might return to the Indian Premier League as a replacement.

2. Thisara Perera

Another player who joined the Karachi Kings in the mini replacement Draft was Thisara Perera. The Sri Lankan all-rounder has retired from international cricket.

However, Perera is still one of the top T20 players in the world. The all-rounder had done really well in Lanka Premier League, and if he replicates that performance in PSL, he could return to the IPL.

3. Colin Munro can get an IPL contract if he performs well in PSL

Colin Munro is a part of the Islamabad United squad in PSL 2021. He was a part of the original squad; the franchise did not select him in the mini replacement Draft.

Munro is a destructive batsman, who can also contribute a bit in the bowling department. Having played for multiple IPL teams in the past, Munro could return to the league once again if he scores runs with the bat for Islamabad United in PSL 2021.

4. Fidel Edwards

West Indies' veteran T20 player Fidel Edwards played in the Abu Dhabi T10 League earlier this year. Now, he will turn up for the Peshawar Zalmi team in the Pakistan Super League.

Although Edwards is not so young right now, the IPL teams can consider for just one half of the competition which is left. Edwards can still trouble the batsmen with his pace, and since he would have played enough games in Abu Dhabi before IPL 2021 begins, he can be one of the top contenders to be signed as a replacement.

5. Ali Khan

American fast bowler Ali Khan made history by gaining a contract from the Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2020. Ali will play for Islamabad United in the PSL 2021 competition.

Kolkata Knight Riders will not have Pat Cummins in their squad this season. So, if Ali Khan has a great PSL season, the Knight Riders could consider roping him in once again as a replacement.
