The International Cricket Council (ICC) had set the deadline for the squad announcement for all 16 participants of T20 World Cup 2021, and all participants honored the deadline. The squads for all teams playing in the T20 World Cup 2021 have officially been released. There were some big surprises in some of the squads.

Most teams preferred to pick the players who were regularly playing for them. However, some of the teams decided to bring back some unexpected players back into the squad. In this listicle today, we will look at those six cricketers who made surprising returns to T20 World Cup 2021 squads.

1. Ravichandran Ashwin is in Indian squad for T20 World Cup 2021

Without a doubt, this was one of the most unexpected recalls ahead of the T20 World Cup 2021. Ravichandran Ashwin, who was not finding a place in the Indian Test XI, suddenly got a call-up to the T20I team.

Fans should note that Ravichandran Ashwin has not played a single T20I match since July 2017. But he has done well in the IPL and can be backed to impress for India in the mega event.

2. Ravi Rampaul

Veteran West Indies fast bowler Ravi Rampaul made a surprise return to the national squad ahead of the 2021 T20 WC. The right-arm fast bowler played for the Windies in the 2011 CWC.

His last appearance for the Men in Maroon came way back in November 2015. Rampaul earned a spot in the squad after some brilliant performances in CPL 2021.

3. Tymal Mills is in England squad for T20 World Cup 2021

Another pace bowler who has returned to his country's T20I team is Tymal Mills. The left-arm fast bowler has not played a T20I since 2018.

Mills performed brilliantly in the league cricket. Hence, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has given him one more chance to prove himself.

4. David Wiese

Former South African all-rounder David Wiese will represent Namibia in the ICC T20 World Cup. Many fans would know that Wiese once played for RCB.

Wiese was a member of the Proteas squad that participated in the 2016 T20 World Cup in India. Now, he will play in T20 WC 2021 Qualifiers for Namibia.

5. Hamid Hassan is in Afghanistan squad for T20 World Cup 2021

Another player who has not played a T20I since 2016 T20 World Cup but will play in upcoming T20 World Cup is Hamid Hassan. He is a right-arm fast bowler from Afghanistan.

Hassan played 22 T20I matches for his country between 2010 and 2016. The pace bowler bagged 32 wickets for the team, with his best figures being 4/22.

6. Dawlat Zadran

One more cricketer who has made a surprise return to the Afghan T20I squad is pace bowler Dawlat Zadran. Dawlat has played only one T20I match since 2017.

Zadran has represented Afghanistan in 34 T20Is and picked up 40 wickets. It will be interesting to see how he performs in the 2021 T20 WC.
