6 Home-Grown Tamil Nadu Players Who Got Fewer Opportunities To Represent CSK
Although IPL is a franchise-based competition, for the local fans, nothing beats the excitement of one among them doing well for the team. For this reason alone, sometimes, franchises insist on having at least a couple of local boys in the roster.
Chennai Super Kings has a marvelous local connect, but the team has not had many Tamil Nadu players in recent years. Of course, Ravichandran Ashwin and Murali Vijay did well for CSK, but along the line, a few other youngsters from TN didn't get ample chances in the playing XI.
It is not an obligation for any team to field home-grown cricketers because, at the end of the day, winning the game matters the most. Nevertheless, such things are always kept in the account, and in this article, we talk a little more about it. We focus on those cricketers from Tamil Nadu who have not had the chance to play a lot for CSK despite being both talented and in the setup.
1.Baba Aparajith
Baba Aparajith is certainly the unluckiest player that IPL has ever seen. An absolute performer at the domestic level, Baba's performance has reeked of class and exceptional talent in the last few years.
Still, the 26-year-old is yet to feature in an IPL game. He has been part of the CSK squad for many seasons, and when the team was banned, he had joined the Rising Pune Supergiant. In CSK, Baba was made to warm the bench excessively. We can't blame the franchise too much for this. CSK has always had splendid top-order batsmen and good offies, thereby ruling out an opening for Baba. At least, had they picked him for IPL 2020, he would have surely made an impact.
2.Abhinav Mukund
Abhinav Mukund is a legend when it comes to Tamil Nadu cricket. He has been scoring runs consistently, and despite being branded as a Test opener, Abhinav has done well in limited-overs too.
However, IPL did not go the right way for the left-handed opener. He sat on the CSK bench from 2008 to 2012 and just got two games to play. In these two games too, he did not get a chance to bat. It was difficult to afford to have Abhinav at the top, but a period of four seasons was big enough to try a few experiments.
3.Vijay Shankar
Despite his underwhelming form right now, Vijay Shankar is one of the best pace-bowling all-rounders that India has at the moment. If things go right, Vijay could as well claim his stake in the Indian Team.
However, it could have been better for Vijay had he got a few opportunities to play for CSK. For almost three seasons, Vijay was with the team, but did not land sufficient chances to make an impact. It was only he moved elsewhere that Vijay started showing his potential.
4.Arun Karthik
Arun Karthik does not play for Tamil Nadu at the moment, but whenever he comes up in TNPL, he arrives strongly to the point. A wicket-keeper batsman, Arun is now a T20 specialist in the domestic circles.
The player was part of CSK for a while. He couldn't get any worthy chances, and later made a move to RCB. Arun did well in a few games for RCB, but since then, he has not been part of IPL. With MSD as your wicket-keeper, there is no chance Arun can come into the team. This move by CSK, is hence, understandable.
5.N Jagadeesan
N Jagadeesan has been part of the Tamil Nadu set up for a while now. In fact, he is one of the senior members of the state team. Despite this, IPL is yet to happen for the talented cricketer.
For Jagadeesan too, the problem is the same as that of Arun Karthik's. With MSD behind the stumps, there is no chance to sneak into the final XI. And to play for CSK as a pure batsman is a huge task for an uncapped player. Nevertheless, with the team's batting slightly under pressure this season, Jagadeesan could actually fancy a game or two.
6.Palani Amarnath
Palani Amarnath played six games and collected seven wickets for CSK in 2008. After this, Palani just could not make a presence in IPL. Considering his talent, it might have been worth giving him a few more games.
One of the fastest bowlers in the state then, Palani was amazing at the start of his domestic career. Although his form went down, had he been given more support, the result might have been different.
