Lord’s Cricket Ground Names Best Non Honors Board XI; 3 Indians including Sachin Tendulkar on the team!
The most prestigious cricket ground in the sport’s history, Lord’s Cricket Ground has a special honors board where the officials list the names of the individuals who either score a hundred or pick up a five-wicket haul at the iconic venue.
Over the years, several legendary players have got their names etched in the history books with their magnificent performances at Lord’s. Also, under-appreciated players like Ajit Agarkar and Ishant Sharma are present on the honors board. In case you forgot, the current BCCI President Sourav Ganguly had made his debut at Lord’s and scored a century in that Test match.
Speaking of the greatest players who never made it to the Lord’s honor board, great names like Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag could not accomplish the milestone at this ground whereas even Virat Kohli has struggled against the English team at this venue.
All the three Indian batsmen feature in this playing XI. The captain of this team is local batsman WG Grace who had incredible numbers in the longer formats of the game. West Indian batsman Brian Lara is at number four whereas the South African all-rounder, Jacques Kallis also finds a place in the playing XI.
The wicket-keeper of this team is Adam Gilchrist. Gilly’s compatriot, Shane Warne headlines the spin bowling attack. The pace bowling department consists of some ultra legends like Wasim Akram, Dennis Lille, and Curtly Ambrose. If one cricket fan would pick his best XI, at least eight of these eleven players would find a place in his squad. However, these great legends of the game could not play well at the ‘Mecca of Cricket.’
Here’s how the complete XI looks like
WG Grace (C), Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, Virat Kohli, Jacques Kallis, Adam Gilchrist (WK), Shane Warne, Wasim Akram, Denis Lillee, Curtly Ambrose.
Some of cricket's greatest ever players do not appear on the famous Lord's Honours Boards.
