Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell pulls out of The Hundred

England's new cricket format and league 'The Hundred,' a hundred ball league, which was scheduled to be played last year and then was postponed to 2021 due to COVID-19, has faced another major blow.

Shane Warne revealed via Fox Cricket that Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has pulled out of the 'The Hundred' inaugural edition, which is scheduled to start from July.

With that, Glenn Maxwell adds his name to a list of Australians who have also withdrawn their name from the competition: David Warner and Marcus Stoinis. It is believed that they have withdrawn from the competition, citing personal reasons and bio-bubble fatigue.

The Hundred

'The Hundred' is a new format of cricket introduced by the founders of the game. 'The Hundred' will be a hundred-ball tournament, where one inning will be limited to 100 balls, making it one of the shortest formats of the game after T10.

'The Hundred' will be organized by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), consisting of teams from major cities of England and Wales.

The tournament was actually scheduled to be held from 2020, but due to the global Coronavirus pandemic, the league/tournament was suspended by a year by the ECB. The tourney will now be played from July 21st till August 21st.

Glenn Maxwell, Warner, and Stoinis replacement

The addition of Glenn Maxwell to the withdrawn players' list adds a significant blow to the league. Earlier Australian duo David Warner and Marcus Stoinis also pulled out.

David Warner and Marcus Stoinis were scheduled to be part of the Southern Brave's squad. However, the franchise has already announced the name of their replacement.

South Africa's Quinton de Kock and New Zealand's new star Devon Conway will fill in the void left by the Australian duo. Meanwhile, London Spirit has picked Josh Inglis as a replacement for Glenn Maxwell.
