5 active cricketers who wear Jersey Number 7 in cricket

In cricket, we are appropriately obsessed with statistics at all times. The number of runs, wickets, and catches is never far from our thoughts; either we compete or observe the sport. But, in addition to game data, the numbers that players don on their jerseys have a more significant meaning. The numbers make it easier for those in the stands or watching TV to recognize players. Also, they are a fantastic way for those who play the sport to engage with its glorious heritage.

Certain numbers are of immense importance owing to some legendary players having donned them. Jersey No.7 is among the iconic jersey numbers as it has been donned by the most successful captain ever- MS Dhoni. On that note, let's take a look at the current players who wear Jersey No.7.

Australian Test skipper Tim Paine was seen wearing the Jersey No.7 in the Ashes 2019/20. This was the first time ICC had introduced jersey numbers in Test cricket. Paine was appointed as the skipper after the horror Sandpaper gate incident.

Paine led Australia to retain the cup and that too at the home soil of England. He had a memorable Ashes 2019/20 campaign, also the first series of the inaugural World Test Championship. However, they failed to qualify for the finals of the mega-event, and Paine will be looking to guide his team towards glory in the next cycle.

Dasun Shanaka made it into the Sri Lankan team after a string of exceptional performances in the domestic circuit. He has been a decent contributor in both aspects of the game and is a massive asset.
