5 players you might not know were part of ICC T20 World Cup 2010

The International Cricket Council (ICC) organized the third edition of the T20 World Cup in 2010. Back then, it was known as the ICC World Twenty 20 tournament. India and Pakistan were the champions of the 2007 and 2009 editions of the competition, but none of the Asian teams made it to the 2010 WT20 Final.

Fans witnessed the Ashes rivalry between Australia and England in the T20 WC 2010 Final, where England prevailed. West Indies hosted that tournament, and in this article today, we will look at the five great players who you might not know were part of the T20 WC 2010 squads.

1. Sanath Jayasuriya

Sanath Jayasuriya started his international career back in 1989. He turned up for Sri Lanka in the 2010 T20 WC but managed only 15 runs in six innings at an average of 3.75. He bowled in four matches and scalped one wicket.

2. Vinay Kumar

Former Indian pace bowler Vinay Kumar made his T20 international debut for the country in the 2010 WT20 match against Sri Lanka in the Super 8s. Kumar bowled well initially but conceded two sixes off his last two balls. He ended with figures of 2/30 in his only game of the tournament.

3. Tim Paine

Current Australian Test team captain Tim Paine was included in Australia's T20 World Cup 2010 squad. However, the wicket-keeper batter did not get a single game. Paine warmed the benches in all games as Brad Haddin kept the wickets.

4. Fawad Alam

Another current Test specialist to feature on this list is Pakistan's Fawad Alam. The Pakistani batter got to play three matches in the 2010 WT20, where he scored 17 runs at an average of 8.50.

5. Mohammad Shahzad

Afghanistan's wicket-keeper batter Mohammad Shahzad has become very popular right now. He recently played for his country in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Interestingly, Shahzad was also part of the Afghanistan squad that played in the 2010 T20 WC. It was the first time Afghanistan qualified for the mega event, and Shahzad scored eight runs in two games for the team.
