LSG fast bowler Mark Wood ruled out of IPL 2022 due to elbow injury
In a disappointing development for the Lucknow Super Giants fans ahead of IPL 2022, the team’s star England fast bowler Mark Wood will miss the upcoming season. Wood joined the LSG franchise at the IPL Mega Auction 2022 as the Lucknow-based team shelled out a whopping INR 7.5 crore for his services.
The LSG team management would have had high expectations from Wood, but the fast bowler is unlikely to play even a single match in IPL 2022. The Super Giants have reportedly not decided on any replacement for Wood yet.
“ESPNcricinfo understands that in a medical update Super Giants have received from the ECB, Wood has been ruled out of bowling for the time being. The franchise has not yet zeroed in on a replacement,” a report from ESPNCricinfo states.
Mark Wood previously played for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. He has always struggled with his fitness issues, which was why it was a little surprising to see the Lucknow Super Giants bidding such a high amount for him.
Who will replace Mark Wood in the Lucknow Super Giants team?
The good thing for the Lucknow Super Giants is that the franchise have enough depth in the bowling department. Mark Wood was not the only overseas player who bowled pace in their squad.
They have former West Indies cricket team captain Jason Holder in the squad along with the Sri Lankan cricket team’s fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera. Australian cricket team’s star all-rounder Marcus Stoinis is also present in the squad.
Talking about the other options available with the Lucknow Super Giants, the team has Avesh Khan who was one of the best performers in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League. Mohsin Khan, Ankit Rajpoot and Mayank Yadav are the other pace-bowling options in the team.
