As per various reports, BCCI is set to allow two retentions for each franchise ahead of IPL 2022. Two RTM cards are also going to be given for the franchises. 2 new teams would join IPL 2022 and a mega-auction will also take place. In a recent video on his Youtube channel, Aakash Chopra talked about the players whom CSK could retain before IPL 2022.

Aakash Chopra's opinion on CSK's retentions for IPL 2022

While speaking on his Youtube channel, Aakash Chopra named the possible retentions by CSK before IPL 2022. He said that MS Dhoni is likely to be retained by the franchise although he may not play for all three years. As per the former Indian cricketer, "CSK without MS Dhoni is like a body without a soul" and hence, even if MSD plays one more season, CSK will surely retain him.

Regarding the next retention, he opined, "The second retention, unless Jaddu says he wants to go, he would know by then if a Gujarat team is there and he wants to go there and become the captain. If that happens then it is different, else Jaddu will be the second retention." Unless Jaddu himself wants to go, he is likely to be the first retention by CSK.

Aakash Chopra also talks about CSK's possible RTM buys

Speaking about the same, he said, "In my opinion, this team will use two ‘Right to Match’ cards. One will be on Deepak Chahar, you will definitely want to retain him, and you can use the RTM card on Suresh Raina. Whom all they will have to let go – Moeen Ali, Dwayne Bravo, Faf du Plessis, Sam Curran. They can buy them in the auction if possible, but you will not be able to retain them with the RTM card." Apart from Deepak Chahar, CSK will also target the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shardul Thakur using the RTM card at the auctions.
