The 2nd of June, Wednesday, 2021, turned out to be a historic day for South Africa-born Devon Conway, who made his international test cricket debut playing for the New Zealand cricket team against England in the 1st Test between both teams.

Devon Conway was born and raised in South Africa

Just last year itself, the International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed that South Africa born and raised cricketer Devon Conway would be eligible to play for 'The Blackcaps' from the 28th of August 2020, but Conway had to wait an entire eight months to make his grand awaited Test cricket debut for New Zealand.

Devon Conway was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, on the 8th of July 1991. He was raised in South Africa and played in the lower divisions of South African domestic cricket, and during the 2018-19 season, when Wellington came calling, he didn't wait a second.

Conway's journey in New Zealand began the brightest way possible as he scored an unbeaten double century in the 2nd round of the Plunkett Shield. He finished the 2018-19 season as the leading run-scorer in both Super Smash and Plunkett Shield with 363 and 659 runs, respectively. He continued his excellent form in the 2019-20 season and raked up some valuable awards.

In Race for World Test Championship Final

International Cricket Council (ICC), the governing body of cricket, confirmed in late 2019 that Devon Conway would play for the New Zealand cricket team from the 28th of August onwards in any format of the game.

But after eight months of wait, Devon Conway was finally called up in the New Zealand squad for the England series and the first-ever World Test Championship Final against India, to be played from the 18th of June at Lord's. It will be interesting to see if he gets a place in the playing XI for the match versus India.
